A memory for my private "MeshMap" nodes from ~ September 2023, experimenting with RealSense depth camera and RTabMap SLAM (the only one which managed to run on my the 11 years-old laptop, LOL, and supposedly on another outdated accompanying computer of a drone 4-core ARM Jetson Nano (with GPU which couldn't be utilized though, maybe it wouldn't sustain the electric load either).
Unfortunately that was a requirements of one "visionary" whom I was helping at the time, practically for free.

The goal was to capture these maps, to convert them into meshes, to feed them into Gazebo simulations and to fly an Ardupilot-SITL simulated autonomous drone with custom computer vision module which, I was starting to develop, utilizing ROS2 and OpenCV.
These simulation used directly the actual drone control protocol MAVLINK and the ROS2 module would operate the same with a real drone, as long as the depth-map captured by its cameras were correct.
Cool project?
Yes, but in "uncool" circustances. (...) The E.Z. project was frozen for now and it is private.
I recalled this when discovering that the above mentioned "visionary" demonstrated using Isaac Sim - a library I proposed back in 2023, but he rejected vigorously, because "he wanted open source". Isaac Visual SLAM would worked with no worries and fast enough on the more modern Jetson Orin etc., and as RTabMap utilized only the CPU, it would have struggled either.
